Miss California Contestants arrive at VA Fresno.
Monday, June 26, 2017
The VA Central California Health Care System hosted Miss California and Miss California Teen June 23. About 80 contestants visited the main VA hospital in Fresno, While there, they toured the Community Living Center, the Walk of Honor and the Primary Care areas."It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our facility, and a great way to give back to our Veterans. The Miss California contestants were very sweet, courteous and respectful to our Veterans. You could tell they were honored to meet with them and hear their stories of service," said Cameron Porter, the VACCHCS Public Affairs Officer.
While at VACCHCS, the Miss California and Miss California Teen contestants stopped and talked with Veterans at every opportunity. The smiles, from all the contestants and the Veterans alike, spoke volumes. Many contestants said the VA visit was the highlight of their whistle stop tour of Fresno on their first day in town.
"It was wonderful hearing from all the Veterans and being able to thank them firsthand for their service. Because of them we are able to live with freedom, liberty and justice," said Jillian Rogers, Miss Kings County Outstanding Teen 2017. "We are the land of the free because of the brave."
"Thank you for giving us a tour of the VA hospital and allowing us to meet some incredible Veterans," added Jasmine Gima, Miss Blythe 2017.
The Miss California finals are scheduled to be televised live from Saroyan Theater in Fresno on CBS throughout the state July 1, starting at 7 p.m. All this week, the preliminaries will be livestreamed as well.
