VA Unveiling of the Walk of Honor” Memorial

By Cenethea Lofbom, VACCHCS Chief, Public Affairs

VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS) unveiled the Walk of Honor Memorial –

Honoring All Who Served on November 14, 2015. The names of 1085 Veterans are currently inscribed on the memorial, including more than 40 killed in action.

The names etched on that wall have a history, a story behind them; they’re more than just an etching. And, some of us are here because we have family members that are going to be on that wall,” remarked Nathan Magsig, Mayor, City of Clovis.

Acting Medical Center Director, David Mastalski provided opening remarks, “We have reached this milestone today because we remained steadfast and understood the importance of our mission: Honoring America’s Veterans. And, that duty is especially important to those of us privileged to serve Veterans at VA.”

The Walk of Honor was a significant undertaking and one that VACCHCS believes will enhance the physical, spiritual and mental healing of Veterans, families and visitors. And, each November following Veterans Day, VA will host a dedication ceremony to add names of Veterans to the memorial.

Congressman Jim Costa, California 16th District so eloquently stated, “Little will be remembered of what we say here this morning in years ahead, but those names, those names will remain. Because those names symbolize families [our families] families of not only this valley, but families of a great nation. Those names reflect those individuals who when their country called them; they answered the call. And as we know, some made the ultimate sacrifice.”
