VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS) marked the final resting place for the “Walk of Honor” on April 29. This groundbreaking ceremony symbolized our commitment to Central Valley Veterans whose names are currently displayed on the “Wall of Honor.”

In 2008, the VA Leadership Class envisioned a memorial “The Wall of Honor” along the front of the hospital’s grounds, honoring all Veterans, and modeled after the Washington DC Vietnam Memorial. And, each year from [2008 to 2012],VACCHCS continued to add additions to the wall, culminating with the names of 1,085 service members, including more than 40 killed in action.

In our efforts to bring Patient Centered Care to the next level, VACCHCS was approved for multiple construction projects – thus necessitating the move of the memorial. The new location will not only be beautifully landscaped, but this area will not be impacted by future construction projects.

VACCHCS understands the value and trust that was placed in our care when the memorial was first constructed in 2008. The hope is that the new “Walk of Honor” will become a sacred place in remembrance of those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom… and …where all Veterans and visitors will gather to share experiences with each other or just stand or sit alone to ponder their thoughts.

Please take time to review the artistic rendering for the “Walk of Honor.”
